Joshua Petker

It's kind of difficult not to notice this bright, colourful, saturated picture on the background of this blog, right?
So here is my next post which is dedicated to the one of the most perspective artists of today , whose name is Joshua Petker.

There isn't much we know about his bio, except of this :

  • 1979 Born Los Angeles, California
  • 2002 BA The Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington
So, nowadays art is becoming more and more popular, which is why the number of artist and photographers is growing every day. That means that there are plenty of them, and in most cases their so called "modern art" is rubbish. It's kind of a new tendency, that everyone , who owns a professional photocamera , thinks that he is a future number 1 photographer, and everyone, who can hold a brush in their hands properly, can become a new Mickelangelo. Well, usually those people are being misunderstood or simply poked. But, from the works that i'm going to show you it's obvious that Joshua doesn't belong to that group of those "masters"

Here are some early works painted by Petker :

They are bright, and we can see this contrast between the one calm and dark colour and the variety of pink, red, lime and yellow splashes. The paintings are good, but they are still similar to many other works by different other artists. They are missing the Petker's style. I would call these works - "feather samples" as we say here, in Ukraine.

While making this post i was searching the Internet looking for the Joshua Petker's paintings of different periods. Maуbe I'm not the one who is really knowledgeable in the art of painting , but my personal opinion is that up to the year 2010 JP was just looking for his own style, for smth that would make it easy to distinguish him from the other young artists. My favourite exhibition , which is called WE ARE NOT AS COLOURFUL AS WE THINK WE ARE, is probably the most succesful one. It looks cosmical, fresh, inspiring. Mabey we are not so colourful, but what makes our life so motley? Perhaps the things that surround us, simple items we even do not notice in everyday routine life? I don't know, you can only get the answer from J. Petker, or just make up your own.  So, here you go , enjoy :
